Requests like this are considered on a case by case basis. Normally, the students making the request is expected to speak before Mass. In this case, there was an unfortunate misunderstanding and hence the request is being included in a regular parish email with more details included here.
Hello St. Mary’s parish!
I hope you are all having a wonderful new year! Fr. Cibelli has gifted me the opportunity to share my call to mission with you all! Since my mother, Jordan Tippett, joined the staff here, St. Marys has held a special place in my heart. I have never met someone here who is not beaming with love for Christ.
I come to you asking if you can help me spread my love for Him! I am a sophomore at Franciscan University and this upcoming spring break I have been blessed to have the opportunity to go to North Dakota! There we will serve the Chippewa Indians on the Reservation and be facilitating retreats in schools. We will also be serving through door-to-door ministry and sometimes even doing manual labor.
To be able to serve I have been asked to fundraise all the money. I am nearly halfway there! Thank you, Jesus! However, I am still in need of $1,300! If you could provide anything to help, I would be so grateful. I have until January 16th at midnight to have it all fundraised.
If you are not able to support me financially, I ask that you please pray for us and the people we will be serving: that their hearts be touched by the Lord. That is what matters most! I will keep you all in my prayers as well and remember your generosity while on mission.
