Liturgy & Liturgical Ministries

Traditional Liturgy is very important to St. Mary's Parish. We follow the norms of the Roman Catholic Church administered by Pope Benedict XVI and the American Catholic norms administered by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops. For more information on Liturgical Ministries, please contact Libby Saxton, Director of Liturgy & Music.

Youth & Young Adult Masses

St. Mary's will be continuing the Youth & Young Adult Masses on the 2nd Sunday of each month. These Masses are welcoming to people of every age, but (while maintaining the norms for liturgy) we add youthful music, homilies, and commentaries. All youth and young adults are encouarged to become a part of these Masses - even to minister as a musician, lector, usher, or eucharistic minister. New - these Youth & Young Adult Masses will be on the second Sunday of the month at 7pm, skipping the month of May (because of Mother's Day). Our next Youth Mass will be June13th at 7pm.

Lectors

Lectoring requires a clear speaking voice and a love for God's Word. Lectors don't always get to read the happy passages, and it sometimes requires preparation work. Parishioners who have been confirmed may volunteer to be lectors on a regular basis. Complete the lector form at the bottom of this page if you are interested in becoming a Lector and Libby will contact you to set up the next training session. NEXT TRAINING is Wednesday, August 12th at 7pm.

Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion

This is the fancy term for Eucharistic Ministers. At St. Mary's, we have several ways for you to participate in serving communion. You can serve at Mass or be part of the Pastoral Visitation Team to give Communion to our shut-ins. You must be at least 16 years of age and confirmed in the Catholic faith to become an E.M.H.C. Please complete the lector form if you are interested, and Libby will contact you to set up the next training session. NEXT TRAINING is Monday, August 17th at 7pm.

Altar Servers

Serving the altar is open to children and youth generally age 10 and up. We ask that they have completed fourth grade before they be trained as altar servers. Ron Gibbons is an excellent trainer and a wonderful role model to the kids. We need altar servers for the 8:30am Mass Monday through Saturday and all weekend Masses. If your child is interested in becoming an altar server, print out the altar server form at the bottom of the page, complete it and turn it into the Parish Office. NEW ALTAR SERVER TRAINING is on Saturday, June 5th 10am to noon.

Cantors

Cantoring is a still a relatively new liturgical ministry to St. Mary's Parish. The community has really responded well to the new role of song leader and psalmist. A cantor is responsible for practicing music on their own ahead of time and arriving to Mass early to practice with the organist beforehand. Libby Saxton is ready and willing to work with new cantors and is available during the week for an extra individual rehearsal if necessary. Anyone who has been confirmed in the Catholic faith may be a cantor on a regular basis. If you're interested in learning more about this or ready to sign up, please complete this form and turn it into the Parish Office.

Ushers

Ushering is an active service to parishioners and visitors of St. Mary's. It requires that you arrive to Mass early with a welcoming spirit and a hand eager to help others. Anyone who is over 15 years of age and a member of the parish may become an usher. Bob Schleigh is the head Usher. You may contact him directly or contact Libby who will pass the information along to Mr. Schleigh.

Altar Society

The Altar Society is the group responsible for the care taking of the altar. Members each take a week at a time (as you are able) to wash altar and tabernacle garments and to clean and maintain the candles, Mass garments and various items associated with the altar. Seasonal decorating of the sanctuary is also done by the Altar Society. Margaret Wilson is the coordinator for the Altar Society. If you're interested in serving in this capacity, you may contact her directly or leave a message through Libby or the Parish Office.
