Mission Statement

We, the Roman Catholic Community of Saint Mary's, located in Hagerstown, Md., the Mother Church of Washington County, do affirm that we are followers of Jesus Christ.  As His disciples, our mission is:

• to proclaim the Good News of Jesus by word and example;

• to continue to grow and mature in faith as a parish community;

• to follow faithfully the teachings of our Holy Father, the Pope, and the teaching authority of the Church;

• to respect the human dignity of all persons;

• to support ecumenism

History

St. Mary's Catholic Church began as a mission church of the Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in McSherrystown, Pennsylvania. When this parish grew, St. Mary's attained its own building and pastor and became part of the first diocese of the United States - later named, the Archdiocese of Baltimore.
